Erasmus+ in Athens

Let's start with a question: what are the famous Erasmus+ programs? You've probably heard of them, but if not, don't worry, I'll explain them to you right away and also share some of my experience. And trust me, it's worth reading... Erasmus+ is the EU program in support of training, education, sports, and youth, providing funding for hundreds of learning opportunities often abroad, such as volunteering, student exchanges, and much more, bringing together people from different backgrounds, nationalities, and cultures in one place. As you may have seen, our school has proposed several projects of this kind in recent months, Bulgaria, the Azores, Turkey, England among the many, have been the chosen destinations, all for the realization of projects with different purposes and objectives, including Youth Worker-the modern profession, Citizens in action, Youth steps in a healthy life, etc. I had the opportunity to participate from March 7th to 13th in the second part of the ACE project, Active Citizenship in Europe in Athens, aimed at introducing us young people (aged 18 to 28) into society as active citizens, helping us to thoroughly understand the tasks that belong to all of us to be involved in the democratic life of our community in order to be able to determine our future. The experience in general was engaging from every point of view, ranging from visits to very important institutions like the Hellenic Parliament, located in Syntagma Square, where we had the opportunity to attend a session (wow!), to visits to places rich in history, such as the majestic Acropolis or the city of Delphi, to more leisure moments, but always educational. The exchange of ideas, proposals, and solutions during these days was crucial, through presentations, conferences, videos, debates, and even cooking lessons: yes, because we also immersed ourselves in each other's cultures through cooking, each of us leaving a part of ourselves, thus managing to achieve the project's goal, contributing in this way, even if in a small way, to society and the European community as active citizens.

Needless to say, Erasmus+ projects not only provide us with technical knowledge but also have a more human aspect behind them. Erasmus+ is the perfect opportunity to step out of our comfort zone, get to know new cultures, practice languages, open our minds, grow, go beyond our monotony and daily routine, and last but not least, forge friendships and relationships that will leave a lasting impression, for better or for worse.

The best part for me? Well, everything. And now, have I convinced you to embark on this journey?

Cominciamo da una domanda: cosa sono i famosissimi Erasmus+?

Probabilmente ne avrete sentito parlare, ma così non fosse, non preoccupatevi, ve lo spiego subito e vi condivido anche un po’ della mia esperienza. E fidatevi, vi conviene leggere...

Erasmus+ è il programma dell’UE a favore di formazione, istruzione, sport e giovani che fornisce finanziamenti per centinaia di opportunità di apprendimento spesso all’estero, quali volontariato, scambi studenteschi e molto altro, riunendo così persone di contesti, nazionalità e culture diverse in un unico posto. 

Come avrete visto la nostra scuola negli ultimi mesi ha proposto diversi progetti di questo tipo, Bulgaria, Azzorre, Turchia, Inghilterra tra le tante, sono le state le mete scelte, tutte per la realizzazione di progetti con finalità e obiettivi diversi, tra cui Youth Worker-the modern profession, Citizens in action, Youth steps in a healthy life, ecc.

Io ho avuto l’opportunità di partecipare dal 7 al 13 marzo alla seconda parte del progetto ACE, Active Citizenship in Europe ad Atene, finalizzato ad introdurre noi giovani (dai 18 ai 28 anni) nella società come cittadini attivi, aiutandoci a comprendere a fondo i compiti che spettano a tutti noi per essere coinvolti nella vita democratica della nostra comunità in modo da essere in grado di determinare il nostro futuro. 

 L’esperienza in generale è stata coinvolgente sotto ogni punto di vista, passando da visite a istituzioni importantissime come il Parlamento ellenico, con sede in piazza Syntagma, nel quale abbiamo avuto l’occasione ad assistere ad una seduta (wow!),  a visite di luoghi ricchi di storia, come la maestosa Acropoli o la città di Delfi, per momenti più di svago, ma sempre formativi.

Lo scambio di idee, proposte e soluzioni durante questi giorni sono stati il punto cruciale, attraverso presentazioni, conferenze, video, dibattiti e addirittura lezioni di cucina: sì perché ci siamo cimentate nelle rispettive culture anche attraverso la cucina, ognuno di noi ha lasciato una parte di sé, riuscendo così a raggiungere l'obiettivo del progetto, contribuendo in questo modo, anche se in piccola parte, alla società e alla comunità europea come cittadini attivi. 

Inutile e scontato dire inoltre che i progetti Erasmus+ oltre a fornirci conoscenze in ambito tecnico, abbiano dietro anche una parte più umana. Erasmus+ è l’occasione perfetta per uscire dalla propria comfort zone, conoscere nuove culture, mettere in pratica le lingue, aprire la mente, crescere, andare oltre la propria monotonia e quotidianità e ultimo, ma non per importanza, portarsi dietro amicizie e persone che vi rimarranno impresse per sempre, sia nel bene, che nel male. 

La parte migliore per me? Beh, tutto. E adesso, vi ho convinto a partire?
